The Long Run 2024

0%

I’m making prostate cancer history.

72km goal done!

Today's ride saw me cross the 72km goal for the Long Run 2024.Β  Here's a photo of me crossing the finishing line, but just like Forest Gump (on a bike that doesn't move) I kept going... for another 1.3km... then I stopped.Β  Now just to see how far I can get for the rest of the month.Β  I wish I had a box of chocolates right now!

The Long Run has almost made $1,000,000 so far this month so thanks everyone who has helped out.Β  It took my 14 rides over 14 days to get the 72km.Β  So in those 14 days, with 72 men diagnosed with prostate cancer in Australia each day, 1004 men got the bad news.

Last 10kms

I'm into the last 10kms for the 72km.Β  So should be 2 rides left.Β  Thanks again to everyone for their support... or just paying to make me visit a gym... Whatever works.

Your generous donations help the PCFA to:-
*Promote and fund world leading, innovative research into prostate cancer

*Implement awareness campaigns and education programs

*Support men and their families through evidence-based information and resources, support groups and Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses

$1200 raised

We've reached $1200 raised so far so again,as massive thanks to everyone who has donated or helped to spread the word so far.

If you've been thinking of donating then today, until midnight, is the time to do it as all donations until midnight tonight (Thurs 19th Sept) will be doubled. So no better time to see any generosity go twice as far.Β  Thanks again everyone for your support.Β

50km Done.

It's taken me 10 visits to the gym (that in itself still amazes me) but i've done over 50km on the bike.Β  So not the goal is in site and i'm still going... somewhat strongly.Β Β

I was going to upload a photo of me doing a bike ride, but it got taken at the wrong time.Β  All you could see of me was my feet on the floor next to the bike, so I'll try again later.

Thanks again to everyone who has donated so far, I really appreciate the generosity for this great cause.Β  If you, or someone you know are thinking of donating then you may want to wait until Thursday because that will be Dollar Match Day.Β  Telix will match any donation on that day, big or small.Β  One again, thanks for all the generosity so far and keep spreading the word, just try to spread it on Thursday! :)

I massive thanks to everyone who contributed!!

Well we've made the goal, so I'm really thankful to you all for being so generous and donating to such and important cause to me and all the people affected by prostate cancer.Β  Donations like these go to funding research that provides al the treatments that are currently keeping me around to keep moaning about, well... most things :)

Someone asked me "Why 72kms?".Β  72 is the default distance goal because 72 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer every day!Β  1 in 5 of those men will develop anxiety or depression as a result of their diagnosis, yet 72% of them will not seek help for it.

I've increased the goal, so if you could share this to anyone you can and help get the word out that would be fantastic!Β  Thanks again.

p.s.Β  As for updates on my distance progress... my hip is a bit sore and I get a slight headache when I open my eyes!Β  Other than that, another 4kms today.

Day 2 is done

So only 2 days so far and 9kms done but more importantly I'm almost at my $500 goal, which is incredible, so thank you to everyone who has donated so far.Β  I've personally seen exactly where these funds go and it's such an important cause and does some amazing things for men and their families going through the never ending joys of prostate cancer.

If anyone wants to share this page to people who might want to support a old fat bloke being forced into a gym kicking and screaming then I would be incredibly thankful.Β  For the share, not for the gym... that makes my body sad.

I’m taking on The Long Run

This September for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, I’m giving it all I’ve got by taking part in The Long Run.

Prostate cancer is Australia’s leading cause of cancer, with 72 men newly diagnosed every day.

Will you donate today to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and help end the pain of prostate cancer? Together, we can make prostate cancer history.

Thank you.Β πŸ’™πŸ™
