I’m making prostate cancer history.
I’m taking on the Long Run to raise awareness.
This September, I am taking part in the Long Run, or walk in my case, to raise funds for research into this very common and dangerous disease. There seems to be a macho image among men that Prostate Cancer will "never happen to me". The fact is, it most likely will without you even realising and having no symptoms.
I had a regular PSA blood test that indicated a higher level than normal and was referred to a Urologist. After a number of tests I was told that I had Metastatic Prostate Cancer, which meant it had escaped the Prostate and entered the Lymphatic system.
I was totally oblivious to my condition as I had zero symptoms. Quite a shock to suddenly have a use by date.
I have told all of my friends and family to get checked and most have done so. I am on Hormone treatment and feel good and am very grateful for my GP for the referral, otherwise I would be coasting along thinking "it won't happen to me"
