I’m making prostate cancer history.
I’m taking on The Long Run
The Long Run
Two years ago, 10 years after prostatectomy I was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer. It was a slow watch and wait leading up to the diagnosis so I was more or less prepared for bad news. At that time I was preparing for the 2022 City 2 Surf and asked for treatment to be delayed until after the run. I ran and came 8th in my age group (70-75), I then began radiation and hormone therapy. The treatment sapped my energy and it’s taken two years to get my fitness back and in 10 days I will be running the 2024 City 2 Surf. Thanks to my oncologist and the wonderful staff at Genesis Care the treatment has so far been successful. My training has involved running around 25km per week so I’ve decided that for the long run I’m going to increase that to 30km a week and have set a target of 120km for the month of September. That is a real stretch and I’m hoping it will encourage my friends and family to give generously to help me reach my $1000 target. The funds raised through the Long Run are essential for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to continue important research that will lead to new and improved treatment and the reduction or elimination of life changing side effects.
In memory of my lifelong friend Harry who was taken by this disease and my brother Steve and several close mates who are dealing with it right now.
This September for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, I’m giving it all I’ve got by taking part in The Long Run.
Prostate cancer is Australia’s leading cause of cancer, with 70 men newly diagnosed every day.
Will you donate today to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and help end the pain of prostate cancer? Together, we can make prostate cancer history.
Thank you. 💙🙏

You're an inspiration Dad. Sometimes we gat caught up in our own bullshit and don't acknowledge the daily struggle of others. You continue to show up everyday for your family and friends and quietly achieve personal goals that would make men half your age blush. I'm very proud to call you my father. Good on you Dad. We all love you very much.
